About the Benchmarking Process

Benchmarking: A Method for Assessing and Reducing Entrepreneurial Risk

Historically, entrepreneurs and business people have been dependent on business cases for much of the information used in planning and validating strategies and tactics. Yet business cases rarely provide the hard, statistical data needed to assess the probability of success of different business strategies.

Without good data about entrepreneurial success factors, and without the ability to their business strategies against these factors, many businesses operate in a fog, without the ability to see a clear path forward. Such businesses achieve only limited results, others have difficulty finding funding, and many simply fail.

The Benchmark Survey, the Benchmark Survey Report and the Benchmark Audit are intended to solve these problems using a structured, statistically-based method for assessing and analyzing business risk.

The Benchmark Survey and the Benchmark Survey Report compare key characteristics of your business to the same characteristics of businesses that have been down the entrepreneurial path successfully. The data gathered from the successful businesses defines an entrepreneurial "success path"; the Benchmark Survey Report tells you where you are on this path.

The Benchmark Audit uses the same methodology to provide a comprehensive assessment of risks and opportunities, and is designed for a full range of entrepreneurial ventures, including startups, emerging growth companies, and new business units within established businesses.
